I've recently been watching quite a lot of cage tours on Youtube and I've seen these made out of felt quite a lot and, although felt may be better, I have just used the simpler option because it's perfectly safe for guinea pig too... These are also tape, staple and glue free just to make sure they are 100% safe!
First you will need a few things -
- Brown Paper
- A piece of cardboard
- Scissors
- String
So here's how you do it -
- Get a sheet of brown paper and cut it into strips of roughly about 30 cm, but you don't have to measure them, there's a good chance your guinea(s) will just eat it and shred it so it doesn't matter if it isn't neat.
- You'll need about 10 strands so using scissors, poke 10 all over the piece of cardboard (if you are quite young, get an adult to do it). I used about a 10 x 10 cm piece of card board but obviously, the amount of strands of paper will depend on the size of the piece of cardboard.
- You then just need to thread the pieces of brown paper through and knot them at the ends!
- If there are bars on your guinea pig cage then you might want to do what I did and poke two more holes (one at either end of the cardboard) into it. Just thread the string through in two strands, then knot it. It will make it easier for you to secure it to the cage once you have finished...and there you have it! A finished paper forest!
(sorry about the blurriness of the last image...Toffee was having fun shredding the paper & moving a lot)
Thanks for reading, and Happy Piggymas!
